Here is a set of classic etudes from Williams’ Supplementary Studies that have been arranged for trumpet and piano by Dr. James Klages. The etudes in themselves are fantastic, but are even better when played with piano. The music will take you all over the horn, from written low F# up to high C for Bb trumpet.

As the title would imply, these studies are built to allow you to fully explore rubato and the art of phrasing. The music is full of cadenze and other opportunities for you to impart your own stylistic flair. Without accompaniment these are challenging enough, but as soon as you add another person into the mix, it’s a whole different ball game.
